A Bone to Pick by Melinda Leigh

Okay, okay, so I couldn’t resist A Bone to Pick. It’s the second in the Widow’s Island novellas. I had to check out the second author and learn more. This one focused on Tessa, who we met in Close to the Bone.

Quote from A Bone to Pick by Melinda Leigh

Tessa Black is now a deputy for Widow’s Island. Tessa is a former Seattle police detective. She returns home due to her mother’s decline in health. Patience, Tessa’s teenage half-sister, couldn’t manage on her own.

Logan Wilde, older brother to Cate, is a former Army Ranger. He came home after seeing atrocities overseas. Now Logan is a park ranger on Widow’s Island.

Brief Summary (while trying not to give everything away)

In A Bone to Pick, the story picks up a few weeks after Close to the Bone. Tessa is called to duty when a resident reports blood curdling screams. After calling in Logan (since the screams seem to be coming from the park), Tessa investigates, only to find a body killed by a harpoon.

The dead body is discovered to be Dante, someone that Tessa recognizes as a new resident. But they later discover that Dante is just his alias. But who committed the murder?

This was just as quick a read as Close to the Bone. I like that Henry and Cate from Close to the Bone still appear in this one, even though this one is from Tessa’s point of view. I’m going to have to slow down on this series, though. The last two don’t come out until later this year. I do recommend this if you like quick short mysteries.

And in case you hadn’t figured it out, my plan for 2021 is to write a blog post for each book I read. Last year, I read 150 books. We’ll see how I do this year.
