I’m not sure how I found A Kiss of Shadows, but I borrowed it from my local library using Libby. I deliberately didn’t read the blurb so I would go into it blind.
Merry Gentry works as a private investigator in Los Angeles. She hides from her Sidhe family by glamouring herself as a human (she’s not). But when the Grey detective agency takes a divorce case against every rule the agency has, well, Merry has no idea how it will change her life.
Merry is outed as Princess Meredith as a result of the divorce case and she has to save herself from the people who come after her. But her powers change after being outed.
In A Kiss of Shadows, Merry’s aunt requests her presence back home. As her aunt is the queen, this means Merry must do it. But what will happen when she returns home?
The world-building in this novel is fantastic. It takes place in our world, but it’s a world in which the fey and the Sidhe live openly with the humans. Well, as much as they can. The Unseelie court is underground in Illinois. I definitely recommend this book because I’m dying to read the next one right now!
