Variations

A Most Alarming Report by Atlee Rose

I’m honestly not even sure how I found A Most Alarming Report yesterday. But I love reading variations of Pride and Prejudice. It’s one of my favorite books of all time and I love seeing what others dream up for my beloved characters.

A quote from A Most Alarming Report by Atlee Rose

Fitzwilliam Darcy is an arrogant, cold, aloof man, who proposes to Miss Elizabeth Bennet, never deaming that she would refuse him. While he’s not as cold as he appears, Elizabeth has no way of determining that.

Elizabeth Bennet is the second oldest of five daughters. Being born a girl to a country gentleman typically means that your only goal is to marry well. Yet, Elizabeth wants to marry with affection.

Brief Summary (while trying not to give everything away)

A Most Alarming Report starts the morning after Mr. Darcy’s proposal in the original book. Elizabeth goes walking as she normally does. There she runs into Mr. Darcy, who hands her a letter. But Elizabeth gets a paper cut on the letter and swoons due to the blood. A comedy of errors results.

Recommendation?

If you are into farcical, most fantastical stories, this is the story for you. The amount of unlucky situations that Darcy and Elizabeth find themselves in is too much to be believed, even by a reader who suspends her belief. The good news is there are a lot of Pride and Prejudice variations, so you’re sure to find one that interests you.

And in case you hadn’t figured it out, my plan for 2021 is to write a blog post for each book I read. Last year, I read 150 books. We’ll see how I do this year.
