In all my book groups I had been seeing this series recommended over and over, The Winston Brothers. Well, I read what I thought was the first one- Truth or Beard and then figured out that their sister Ashley had a book. Fortunately, I had already purchased her book- Beauty and the Mustache.
Ashley Winston left Green Valley, Tennessee eight years ago and didn’t look back. She went to college, graduated, became a nurse practitioner, and lives in Chicago. The one thing she took with her was her daily phone call with her momma. When she calls her mom and there’s no answer two days in a row, that’s when Ashley breaks down and calls one of her six brothers.
Dr. Andrew Runous is a game warden in the Great Smoky Mountains. He also has gotten close to Bethany Winston, Ashley’s mom. Ashley doesn’t know what to think of Drew when she meets him.
Brief Summary (while trying not to give everything away)
In Beauty and the Mustache, Ashley discovers when she talks to her brother that her mom is in the hospital. She hops on a flight to Tennessee. Who should wake her up less than four hours after she went to sleep? The story tells what happens after Ashley finds out that her mom is dying of cancer.
First, you might not know this, but I was working on my master’s in literature many years ago. One of the poets that my thesis was going to be about was Emily Dickinson. I say this because in this book, she’s mentioned as Emily Dickenson. This bothered me because she’s a famous poet! That said, the book was okay. I would not tell anyone to run out and read it immediately, but it’s not a bad story. Just not a favorite.
