I found Melinda Leigh when I first read the novellas in her series Widow’s Island that she writes with Kendra Elliott. Her style of writing is exactly what I love to read in a good mystery. So when I discovered Cross Her Heart, of course I had to read it.

As a child of eight, Bree Taggert gathered her siblings and hid under the porch steps, hearing the sound of gunshots echoing through the air. Both of her parents died that day. Police deemed that their father killed their mother before turning the gun on himself. After that day, Bree grew up separate from her sister and brother.

Many years later, Bree is a detective in Philadelphia. She runs down a suspect and discovers that she missed a phone call from her sister. Knowing that her sister doesn’t call on the spur of the moment, Bree tries to call her back. When Bree gets no response, she decides to return home to Grey’s Hollow to check on her sister.

Brief Summary (while trying not to give everything away)
In Cross Her Heart, Bree arrives home to discover that her sister has been murdered and that it looks eerily similar to how their parents died. Matt Flynn is a former K-9 handler, who is friends with Bree’s brother-in-law, who has vanished. Bree and Matt team up to discover who killed Bree’s sister.
Recommendation?
Cross Her Heart is available on Kindle Unlimited. It’s the first in the Bree Taggert series. While this does connect to the Morgan Dane series, you don’t have to read that series first. If you’re a fan of mysteries and thrillers, you want to read this one!

My plan for 2022 is to write three blog posts a week- one about a fantasy book, one about a mystery book, and one about a romance book (with some posts about series thrown in). This one is a mystery so if you’re a mystery lover, then you’ll want to check it out!
