Darkness Calls by K.C. Kingmaker

I actually read Shadowblade Academy: Darkness Calls first before I read the Briarwitch Academy series. But I just discovered that there’s actually a series between these two. I haven’t read that series, but I think it might be helpful to read it. This has the makings of a reverse harem series, but as of the ending of the first book, the main character is only with one of the guys.

Coralia Hargrave celebrates her 21st birthday with her best friend Marlow. She and Marlow lives in the “Crust” which is on the outskirts of New Orleans. Marlow takes Coralia to have a reading done for her 21st birthday. The psychic has a very unusual prophecy for her.

Shortly afterward, Coralia is attacked outside of the bar that she and Marlow had ended up at. She manages to fight off her attacker, but another manages to kidnap her from her home after her mother told her that her supernatural sister was missing. Coralia wanted to search for her sister, but had no idea how to do that.

In Darkness Calls, Coralia ends up at Shadowblade Academy where her sister attends (or did until she disappeared). Venn, an Unseelie fae, Sunny, a vampire, and Dax, a panther shifter, are the remaining members of Hudson’s Glove. Coralia must learn to work her magic while in what is essentially a graduate school for magic users.

Recommendation?

If you’re a fan of fantasy stories and especially if you liked Briarwitch Academy, then you need to read this one. This does have a cameo of Dawn Rose, from Briarwitch Academy. This is on Kindle Unlimited and now I’m off to read the next one!

My plan for 2022 is to write three blog posts a week- one about a fantasy book, one about a mystery book, and one about a romance book (with some posts about series thrown in). This one is a fantasy so if you’re a fantasy lover, then you’ll want to check it out!
