I’m just going to start this one off with an apology to all of my friends who told me to read From Blood and Ash. I’m not sure why I waited so long to read it, but oh my!

Penellaphe is the Chosen, the Maiden. She must stay veiled at almost all times. It’s a constraining life, but she enjoys breaking free every once in a while. That’s when Poppy, as her brother named her, really shines.

Hawke Flynn is a guard working his way up. He is incredibly handsome as all the girls seem to swoon over him. When Rylan, Poppy’s guard, is killed, Hawke takes his place.

In From Blood and Ash, Poppy seems to be straining against the restrictions placed on her as the Chosen. Does she want to be found worthy for the Ascension? Read it and find out.
Recommendation?
There is a LOT of world building in this one. The book explores quite a bit of mythology. I struggled at first because I was trying to figure out what or who the Ascended were. I had my suspicions and most of them turned out correct. There were some twists in this one. I can’t wait to read the next one.
