Geekerella by Ashley Poston

My college best friend messaged me this week and told me that she had a book series for me to read. Geekerella was the first book of that series. Since she’s the one who told me to read Harry Potter, I figured that I should listen to her.

Elle Wittimer lives in Charleston, South Carolina. She loves the classic sci-fi series Starfield because it was something she and her father shared. Elle lives with her stepmother and two stepsisters (who are twins).

Darien Freeman is a teen actor. Before he started acting, he loved going to cons. Now he wishes he could refuse to go. Since he won the role of Prince Carmindor in the Starfield reboot, Darien knows that the fandom has written him off as just another dumb actor. They have no idea that he’s just as big a fan as they are.

Brief Summary (while trying not to give everything away)

In Geekerella, the story bounces back and forth from Elle to Darien. Elle learns of Darien’s role in the reboot and immediately blogs about it. Later they start texting when he tries to reach her father to cancel his appearance at ExcelsiCon. But her father passed away several years earlier. He has no idea who she is and she has no idea who he is. What happens? Read it and find out!

Recommendation?

This is obviously a Cinderella retelling. I got vibes from “A Cinderella Story”- you know the movie with Hilary Duff. But instead of being “Diner Girl”, Elle is a geek who works in the Magic Pumpkin food truck. But I also saw glimpses of Ever After: A Cinderella Story too with the stepmother and stepsisters. Like that movie with Drew Barrymore, the younger stepsister isn’t quite as bad as the mother and sister. This is not on Kindle Unlimited, but is a good story!

And in case you hadn’t figured it out, my plan for 2021 is to write a blog post for each book I read. Last year, I read 150 books. We’ll see how I do this year.
