Hallowe’en Party by Agatha Christie

I have seen a lot of Agatha Christie over the years, but I haven’t read that many. When the new Poirot movie with Kenneth Branagh was announced, I knew I wanted to read the book. Well, even though the movie is named A Haunting in Venice, it’s inspired by the book Hallowe’en Party.

Ariadne Oliver, an often used character in Poirot books by Agatha Christie who is an author, visits her friend in Woodleigh Common. They attend a Halloween Party for eleven plus at a local house. While there, a local girl Joyce boasts of seeing a murder, trying to impress Mrs. Oliver.

However, no one believes her, but when the girl is found dead at the end of the party, well, it definitely seems like someone took her seriously. Mrs. Oliver decides to bring her friend Hercule Poirot in to investigate.

Brief Summary (while trying not to give everything away)

In Hallowe’en Party, Hercule Poirot comes to investigate. Fortunately, a retired Superintendent, who is a friend of Poirot, also lives in Woodleigh Common. Thus Poirot is able to have several different resources to help in the investigation. Poirot determines that figuring out the murder that Joyce had seen would help discover who killed her.

Recommendation?

Hallowe’en Party is NOT available on Kindle Unlimited. However, the book can be found on sale at different times. I did figure out who did it before Poirot revealed it. This is a good story, but not one of her best.
