Romance Variations

Happy by Accident… or Not? by Michelle D’Arcy

Obviously, I continued right on with my Pride and Prejudice variations binge with Happy by Accident… or Not?. (I’m telling you I’m not sure why I went through so many, but luckily most are on Kindle Unlimited.) This one is available on Kindle Unlimited.

This variation starts after the card party at the home of Elizabeth’s aunt Phillips. Elizabeth is out walking, contemplating what she learned from Lieutenant Wickham the previous night. She discovers Mr. Bingley, thrown from his horse and in a ditch.

In the time that Elizabeth had waited with Mr. Bingley for help to arrive, they discussed his friend, Mr. Darcy, which helped Mr. Bingley to understand that Elizabeth had overheard their conversation at the assembly. This, in turn, led Mr. Bingley to reveal that to Mr. Darcy, ensuring that the misunderstandings of before were cleared up faster.

Brief Summary (while trying not to give everything away)

In Happy by Accident… or Not?, as the accident was shortly before the time of the ball, Mr. Bingley’s accident was not a happy one. The accident forced him to sit out the dances at the ball. There were some additional guests added to the story that do not appear in canon.

Recommendation?

Happy by Accident… or Not? is a short novella of only 132 pages. This one is on Kindle Unlimited. I do recommend it, especially for anyone looking for a quick read to finish their reading challenge for the month or year.

My plan for 2021 was to write a blog post for each book I read. This is the thirty-sixth book of December. Just four more- getting closer to the end…
