I’ve been slowly rereading the In Death series, intermingled with other books. Haunted in Death follows Memory in Death. This is a short story that is included with the anthology, Bump in the Night.
After learning about the series the first time back in 2001, I promptly read them all. At least, I read all of those books that had been released. But somewhere along the line, I stopped reading the current ones so I have needed to go back and read the series again. That’s why I’m re-reading these.
In this short story, Eve and Peabody arrive at the scene to discover Radcliff C. Hopkins III’s dead body at Number Twelve. Once again, Eve faces a body that is riddled with bullet holes. This is Peabody’s first case with bullets.
Brief Summary (while trying not to give everything away)
In Haunted in Death, Eve searches for a killer while contending with a ghost. After all, the skeleton of a famous singer was discovered in the walls of the building. Many people claim to hear the singer sing. Nothing has been sustainable in that building since the singer disappeared, causing the building to be declared cursed. Even Roarke won’t touch it. But who actually killed Hopkins III? Read it and find out.
Recommendation?
This story is #22.5 of J.D. Robb’s In Death series. It takes place right after Memory in Death. This one has glimmers of paranormal in it so expect that going in.
