I’ve been slowly rereading the In Death series, intermingled with other books. This time Midnight in Death is up. This is the first of the novellas. Originally it was published in an anthology called Silent Night. This quickly follows Holiday in Death. It is Eve’s first New Year’s with Roarke. But of course, a case comes up.
After learning about the series the first time back in 2001, I promptly read them all. At least, I read all of those books that had been released. But somewhere along the line, I stopped reading the current ones so I have needed to go back and read the series again. That’s why I’m re-reading these.
Lieutenant Eve Dallas is a New York City homicide detective in 2058/2059. Midnight in Death starts on Christmas morning. After opening presents with Roarke, Eve is called to the scene of a death of a judge. This case is unusual in the sense that Eve knows exactly who the killer is.
Brief Summary (while trying not to give everything away)
In Midnight in Death, a killer escapes from prison and comes after all those who had helped put him away. He even comes after Doctor Mira. Does Eve manage to take him down again and spend New Year’s with Roarke? Read it and find out!
This story is #7.5 of J.D. Robb’s In Death series since it’s a novella. It takes place between Holiday in Death and Conspiracy in Death. While it’s not necessary to read the novellas, there are references to the cases in later books so it is helpful.

My plan for 2022 is to write three blog posts a week- one about a fantasy book, one about a mystery book, and one about a romance book (with some posts about series thrown in). This one is a mystery so if you’re a mystery lover, then you’ll want to check it out!
