Fantasy Variations

Miss Bennet’s Dragon by M Verant

After finishing Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, I needed a good Pride and Prejudice variation. Miss Bennet’s Dragon popped up when I looked up Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. I love me some dragons.

In this variation, the gentry bind a draca form on their wedding night. Mr. and Mrs. Bennet bound a firedrake, which is one of the larger draca. This gives them higher standing. But the draca only stays as long as the husband is alive, unless the wyfe is unusually strong.

Elizabeth has an unusual gift that develops during the story in that she can command draca, even as an unmarried lady. Like in canon, she and Jane are very close.

Brief Summary (while trying not to give everything away)

In Miss Bennet’s Dragon, Elizabeth goes to see Jane when Jane is at the Bingleys’, sick. Once there, Elizabeth discovers that Jane has been bitten by something. The washer woman lets Elizabeth know what she needs to heal her. This leads Elizabeth to command the Hursts’ draca to provide the necessary ingredient. Mr. Darcy sees Elizabeth do this and wonders at it.

Yet, draca are dying and not at all like they normally do. What is happening is a mystery. Who is behind it? What are they trying to accomplish? Read it and see!

Recommendation?

Miss Bennet’s Dragon is such a fantastic story. The book was just released at the beginning of this month. It is to be the beginning of a trilogy. I personally can not wait for the rest to be released. This one is on Kindle Unlimited.
