The Mistletoe Pact by Jo Lovett

I think The Mistletoe Pact was a deal mentioned in the BookGorilla daily email, like In a Holidaze. But maybe it was in an Amazon email. Regardless, as it was getting closer to Christmas, I had to get it. It had mistletoe in the title, after all.

A quote from The Mistletoe Pact by Jo Lovett

Evie Green grew up with a single mum (yes, it’s set in England, even though it starts in Las Vegas). Her mother named her Evie because she was born on Christmas Eve. Her best friend is Sasha Marshall, whose family seems to have it all together, at least in Evie’s eyes. At Christmas, when Evie’s 22, the guy she was dancing with at the Christmas party leaves her to dance with her mum. Evie wonders what that says about her.

Dan Marshall is Evie’s best friend’s older brother. Evie has always had a secret crush on him. Dan is a doctor. Dan and Evie make a pact on her 22nd birthday that if she’s still single on her 30th birthday that they will get married. The book opens on her 30th birthday. The night before, Dan and Evie married in a wedding chapel in Vegas.

Brief Summary (while trying not to give everything away)

In The Mistletoe Pact, Evie and Dan decide to divorce after waking up married in Vegas. Next comes a series of obstacles that stand in the way of our couple’s HEA. Will they get together or not? Read it and find out!

Recommendation?

The Mistletoe Pact is billed as a romantic comedy. However, when you are used to the comedic writing of Pippa Grant or others like her, this does not even come close. The book goes back and forth in time, which always throws me off, but at least it tells you Now- December 2021 or Then- December 2013 at the beginning of the section. I don’t recommend reading this book. The obstacles felt too contrived. While the story was likened to a Hallmark movie, it didn’t live up to that.

My plan for 2021 was to write a blog post for each book I read. This is the fifth book of December. Just thirty five more…
