Cozy Mystery

The Perfect Brew by Jo-Ann Carson- My Next Read

After finishing the Riverwise Private Security yesterday, I decided to change genres. I like paranormal romance, but I like lots of genres. I had downloaded several books for free or at a discount since the first. Something about the title- The Perfect Brew by Jo-Ann Carson- lured me in. Yet, I’m not a coffee person. Still, I adore a good pun.

Each chapter starts off with a coffee quote

The Perfect Brew by Jo-Ann Carson is a paranormal cozy mystery. I do love cozy mysteries and typically like when they combine them with paranormal aspects. This one has humans, witches, warlocks, vampires, ghosts and curses.

Cassie (short for Cassiopeia) Black arrives in Mystic Keep to attend her great-aunt Ophelia’s funeral. Somehow she was the only one in her family available to go. She has five sisters and three parents, yet it fell to her to attend. Her aunt Ophelia’s death seems suspicious to Cassie. Cassie is a mystery lover and wants to find out if Ophelia’s death is truly suspicious.

Brief Summary (while trying not to give everything away)

Cassie’s love life gets quite entangled while trying to figure out more about what happened to her aunt. From the local human cop to the sexy warlock partner to her boyfriend back in Amsterdam, Cassie’s got her hands full, not to mention the murder of her aunt’s lawyer that occurs right in front of her. Cassie, of course, has to do a little sleuthing.

Recommendation?

While this did tidy up the murder of Opehlia’s lawyer, nothing about Cassie’s aunt or her love life has been resolved. There are two more books in the Perfect Brew trilogy. I’m not sure if I’ll continue with this or not. It was a good story, but I’m not sure if it’s compelling enough to get me to buy the next one.

And in case you hadn’t figured it out, my plan for 2021 is to write a blog post for each book I read. Last year, I read 150 books. We’ll see how I do this year.
