The Unexpected Heiress by Florence Gold

I think I found The Unexpected Heiress when I downloaded Secret Arrangement. I think it was one of the suggestions that Amazon makes once you’ve downloaded a book. But I’m glad I did find this one.

This one maintains Pride and Prejudice canon until two months after Mr. Darcy’s fateful proposal in Kent. At that time, Mr. Bennet receives a missive that he isn’t sure how to respond to. A letter arrives looking for Isabella Russell, the sister of Mrs. Bennet. But Isabella died not two months after giving birth to Elizabeth. Yes, Elizabeth is not the child of the Bennets.

Elizabeth’s parents, Hugh and Isabella Russell (yes, they were married), both died when Elizabeth was young. Indeed, her father never saw her. But he was the second son of the Marquess of Walford. It seems that the Marquess has died and they are looking for Isabella.

Brief Summary (while trying not to give everything away)

In The Unexpected Heiress, Elizabeth finds out that she is the heiress to the Marquess of Walford’s estate and title. When she goes to London to deal with it all, her aunt requests a meeting with Miss Darcy. Mr. Darcy comes and the pair are reunited.

Recommendation?

The Unexpected Heiress is angst free. I enjoyed this one wholeheartedly. It’s an interesting take on what could be if Elizabeth’s parents were not the Bennets. This is well worth the time to read. This one is on Kindle Unlimited.

And in case you hadn’t figured it out, my plan for 2021 is to write a blog post for each book I read. Last year, I read 150 books. We’ll see how I do this year.
